Impact of information technology on industry sustainability

Abstract

In the current scenario facing the shortage of vital raw materials for the industry and the challenge of sustainability, the adoption of information technology in production processes, which can be classified as part of industry 4.0, is a way to maintain competitiveness and ensure sustainability.

The objective of this work is to analyze the impacts of the adoption of information technology on production processes, for which a bibliographical review and a case study were carried out. By comparing the results observed in a small jewelery shop and the final assembly line of a large company in the automotive sector of Araraquara, it was possible to verify the positive impacts in both cases despite the proportions.

Both cases demonstrate information technology as a path to sustainability, as the two companies compared had a reduction in waste and resources spent in the process, even though they are very different companies, both in size and in the field of activity.
